A great time in Piano Lab this afternoon here at OE and a good lesson in ear training (country songs) though not entirely music related which I'll explain. We were listening to an uplifting old country number called He stopped loving her today (the reason he stopped was because she died!). We had to try and hear the chord changes. When I listen to a piece of music I get so caught up in the lyrics, the strings, the drums and a whole host of other things that I find it hard to know when the chords are staying the same. Tony Z my teacher today told me that most of the time (not always) you can listen to the bass and that will tell you when the chords are changing.
It had been a crazy week and I was struggling in my faith but this really spoke to me. So often our Christian journey can be like a piece of music. We get distracted with other Christian stuff and people's opinions etc (lots of it good) and not tune our ear to God, the one who stays the same. It encouraged me to get with Him and listen to what He might be saying and try and tune out the other sounds. I want to learn to hear the bass both musically and spiritually!
I know that old song! "They placed a wreath upon his door and soon they'll carry him away. He stopped loving her today." Memories of my childhood! Great thought about tuning our ear to hear what God has to say!
