Great night tonight at a youth event in worship. We sang the song Jesus Paid it All, an incredible hymn which was updated a few years ago by adding the refrain; 'oh praise the One who paid my debt and raised this life up from the dead'. The original hymn was written by a lady called Elvina Mable Hall and not much is known about her except when she was born, who she married, when she died and that she attended a church in Baltimore for four decades. It amazes me that we are singing this hymn over 100 years after she wrote it and the truth is still the same. I was struck by the legacy she has left behind. She probably had no idea that her song would be sung by so many and for so long. It reminded me that we may never see the fruits of our labour whilst we are here on earth but we may see them one day when we look down from heaven!
